Is vaping without nicotine bad for you?

I was not going to answer this question because the answer is, ‘very little ‘bad’ at all.’ However, I also read the collapsed answer below by Josie Smith which stated that it could still cause popcorn lung and I realised that there is a great deal more to the question than is observable with just a quick glance.

The question itself demands an answer which does not confine itself to just nicotine, although this is an important element. This question, and the collapsed answer, demands a a fairly detailed look at many of the issues surrounding vaping… but I will start with the ridiculous idea that vaping can cause popcorn lung, or to give it its correct names, bronchiolitis obliterans, or constrictive bronchiolitis. A particularly nasty, nasty condition.

    Popcorn Lung:

Any typos in this section will be the result of my laughing at the thought that vaping can cause popcorn lung.

Actually, I am not laughing now. It just occurred to me that it is so sad that the public can be taken in so easily by an outrageous claim taken up and repeated by the media, and by charities and NGOs such as, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. I mention this group specifically as they use, ‘kids,’ as an appeal to emotion and as such, in the case of popcorn lung, they present a logical fallacy (Logical Fallacy: a concept within argumentation that commonly leads to an error in reasoning due to the deceptive nature of its presentation.) It is part of their campaign to demonise vaping, not to protect the health of children, but to protect the industry which, indirectly, pays for, and justifies, Tobacco Free Kids’ continued existence: the tobacco industry. Apart from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CTFK’s primary financial support comes from the American Cancer Society, which itself is funded with millions from RWJF and other pharmaceutical companies, like the makers of smoking cessation drugs, nicotine gums, and patches. Fear Profiteers. I did say, ‘indirectly.’ Who would pharmaceuticals get their money from, if not via NRT products, and the billions from drugs etc to battle smoking related conditions?

Popcorn lung is caused by inhalation of the chemical, diacetyl. This is a sweetner used as a food additive and has been found in e liquids. Here though is an interesting fact. It was first (to many in the vaping community) highlighted by a vaping advocate, a doctor, and was subsequently self regulated by the UK vaping industry - in the UK you will not find this substance being used by e liquid manufacturers: I am not sure about other countries - It is not a good practice, however it is a minor issue.

    A minor issue?

    Yes!

It is down to a little common sense: Diacetyl is found in cigarettes and at far, far higher concentrations than in any e liquids. Indeed the amount of diacetyl in combustible cigarettes has been found to be (in daily exposure) 750 times higher, on average than exposure to diacetyl from vaping . New Study Finds that Average Diacetyl Exposure from Vaping is 750 Times Lower than from Smoking

Way back in 2015, Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos spelt out the facts regarding diacetyl in e liquids. A new study finds diacetyl in e-cigarettes but exaggerates risks and fails to discuss about smoking. The self-regulation followed on from this report. (This link associated with Dr Siegel’s above, but employs a different perspective.)

Now we need to apply a little common sense:

I have written before: “I do not know how many smokers there have been, past and present, but it must be more than a few billion.” These people have been inhaling a product containing levels of diacetyl 750 times more than the amount found in e cigarette liquid. Yet, not one case of bronchiolitis obliterans has been found in anyone as a result of smoking.

This is what you should think about customary e-cigarettes, Vaping Without Nicotine: Are There Still Side Effects? the destructive impacts of nicotine, however most investigations center around nicotine presentation from smoking tobacco.

Never vaped nicotine in my life, I use vape devices for medical marijuana only, as the effect is usually better than one just from smoking. The most recent purchase of mine is dry herb vape pen starter kit Yocan Evolve D Plus and it is 100% safe.

It is bad. Stop smoking at all... If you are looking for some help with it, I recommend some medicine like Chantix maybe. I think you can find it at Canada drugs, for example. It will work well for you, good luck with it!
